The rehabilitation of the Luis Donaldo Colosio boulevard, part of the road that connects Cancun with the rest of the Riviera Maya, has caused notable increases in travel time, specifically to the Cancun International Airport.
As a preventive measure, various communications from airlines invite travelers to take precautions in light of this setback, as well as recommend the use of alternative routes to avoid the construction, such as the Huayacán, López Portillo, and 135 avenues, and the Cancun-Mérida highway. Likewise, the various companies that provide transportation services have joined the initiative to invite their users to take such preventive measures.

The works carried out seek to benefit the population and tourists who visit the Riviera Maya, but for the moment, drivers are asked to exercise extreme caution. According to the authorities’ statement, the rehabilitation section has two schedules for the directions of traffic: from 00:00 to 14:00 hours, two lanes going from north to south (Cancun-Playa del Carmen) and one returning; and from 14:00 to 00:00 hours, two lanes from south to north (Playa del Carmen-Cancun) and one in the opposite direction, as well as the first section of 1.3 kilometers of the Colosio Boulevard, between Plaza Luxury and the Universidad La Salle, will maintain one lane in counterflow, one reversible lane for peak hours and a normal lane in the north to south direction, from downtown Cancun to the airport, so that motorists can advance with order and caution.
Similarly, a couple of weeks ago, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador visited the city to start four new projects that seek to further improve urban infrastructure, with an investment of 7,262.4 million pesos. The projects mentioned are the Nichupté Bridge, which will conclude works in December 2023, the second is the rehabilitation of the Luis Donaldo Colosio Boulevard, the third is the Airport Distributor with works completed for October 2023, and finally the extension of the Chac Mool avenue that will connect with the Colosio Boulevard with a tentative delivery date for October 2023.

Betting once again on the Riviera Maya, the aim is to further promote tourism, which will be received with first-class infrastructure, where its residents will also benefit, but in the meantime, during the work it is important to adapt and anticipate any setbacks that are related to these works.
