Infrastructure and investment in the Riviera Maya

The rehabilitation of the Luis Donaldo Colosio boulevard, part of the road that connects Cancun with the rest of the Riviera Maya, has caused notable time increases in transfers, specifically to the Cancun International Airport.

As a preventive measure, various communications by airlines invite travelers to take measures to face of this setback, as well as recommend the use of alternate routes to avoid the works, such as Huayacán, López Portillo, 135 avenues and the Cancún-Mérida highway. Likewise, the various companies that provide transportation services have joined the initiative to invite their users to take such preventive measures.

The works carried out seek to benefit the population and tourists who visit the Riviera Maya, but for the moment drivers are asked to take extreme precautions. According to the statement from the authorities in the rehabilitation section, there are two schedules for the directions of traffic: from 00:00 to 14:00 hours, two one-way lanes from north to south (Cancún-Playa del Carmen ) and one back; and from 2:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m., two lanes from south to north (Playa del Carmen-Cancún) and one on the opposite side, as well as the first 1.3-kilometer stretch of Colosio Boulevard, between Plaza Luxury and Universidad La Salle, a contraflow lane will be maintained, a reversible lane for higher capacity hours and a normal lane in the north-south direction, from downtown Cancun to the airport, so that motorists advance with order and caution.

Similarly, a couple of weeks ago, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador visited the city to start four new projects that seek to improve urban infrastructure, with an investment of 7,262.4 million pesos. The projects mentioned are the Nichupté Bridge, which will delivered in December 2023, the second is the rehabilitation of Luis Donaldo Colosio Boulevard, the third is the Airport Distributor, delivered by October 2023, and lastly, the expansion of Chac Mool Avenue, which will connect with Boulevard Colosio with a tentative delivery date for October 2023.

Betting once again on the Riviera Maya, this projects seek to promote tourism even more, who will be received with a first-class infrastructure, where its residents will also benefit, but in the meantime, during the construction it is important to adapt and anticipate any setback that may be related to these works.
