Mexican Caribbean: A Safe COVID-19 Tourist Destination

At the beginning of 2020, the world received news of a new virus, a health emergency declared a pandemic by the World Health Organization (WHO). In response, every country implemented necessary measures to prevent contagion. The state of Quintana Roo began implementing various health protocols to safeguard both its residents and visitors.

The Secretariat of Tourism and the Secretariat of Health established the Certification in Health Protection and Prevention in Tourist Facilities with the aim of maintaining the necessary health measures to prevent COVID-19. The certification’s goal is to ensure compliance with various health practices to provide confidence and certainty to tourists. In this way, the Mexican Caribbean is positioned as one of the first international destinations to receive the Global Safety Stamp from the World Travel & Tourism Council.

Along with the various health measures implemented, some countries also require a negative COVID-19 diagnostic test for re-entry to their home countries after visiting these destinations.

The protocols for prevention, detection, and management of COVID-19 include a hospital network and laboratories for testing both antigens and PCR, with the purpose of providing greater security to those traveling to the Mexican Caribbean.

In the case of tourists with positive PCR results, mandatory isolation is required in the Mexican Caribbean. Through the Certification in Health Protection and Prevention in Tourist Facilities, in collaboration with various certified hotels, specific protocols are offered to care for tourists in isolation. This further instills confidence in those visiting our tourist destinations.

Additionally, remember that by following the following measures, you can reduce the possibility of contagion during your trip:
